Love this time of year, light nights, sunshine, great for flying the birds.
Been busy here at Speyside Falconry had lots of visitors on experiences, including kate who enjoyed a birthday experience and kindly sent some photos, and we have been out and about with the birds. Darren is working with a couple of falcons we are adding to the team for the season ahead. we have updated our events page with some of the events we have coming up so you can have a look and see where you might see us on display. we got listed in a post for the top 15 falconry blogs and we ranked #9 which we are quite pleased about We recently became a Dementia Friend. We have regualr interactions with people with dementia on our Animal Assisted Therapy visits but we also meet people with Dementia who are on private expereinces visiting us with their family. Nowadays people are living for longer and people with dementia are living at home in their communities for longer and for some this can pose problems with daily life as people have little understanding of the illness. The Alzheimer Assosication are working hard to raise awareness so people in the community can understand better, help and support people with dementia in their community. Its a great thing to be part of and i would encourage anyone to sign up and become a Dementia Friend gain a better understanding and turn that into simple actions that can help people with dementia. https://www.dementiafriends.org.uk/WEBArticle?page=what-is-a-friend#.WtzVglDTW7M

Hi everyone, well we have been in business for about 8 weeks now and I would like to thank you all for all the support you have given us, and to everyone who has shared our posts, thank you and keep it up!!!
We have been overwhelmed with the interest we have received in such a short space of time. September and October have been very busy and we have taken lots of bookings for November. We have our first Birthday party in November which I am looking forward to and I hope is the first of many!! So far we have visited quite a few care homes doing our Animal Therapy Visits which is always really enjoyable, as much for us as it is for the residents. We have met some remarkable people and enjoyed a good chat with them as they met the birds and learned some more about them. I am excited about the care homes we have in the diary for the coming weeks and the people we will get to meet there. We have been to a nursery group which was good fun, all the kids (and adults) loved the owls and got a chance to touch them, the braver of the group held them as well. Jessica and Kate were helping me and were fantastic as always, we have some more nurseries to visit so I am looking forward to having some more children get involved and learn about the owls. A repeat booking was discussed and next time we hope to do a flying session with the owls. We have had private Meet the Owl sessions which are a good opportunity for people to enjoy a private session and to fly the owls as well as learn about them, it’s a very interactive session, its an hour long and perfect for kids. We also do a Behind the Scenes experience which is 3 hours long and includes refreshments. It’s a unique opportunity to see what we do on a daily basis, fly the birds, learn about the birds, equipment we use and the sport. Darren is looking forward to our first one of these sessions next month. We visit people in their own homes with the owls which is good fun and very relaxed, it also allows for people who for various reasons don’t get out and about to enjoy an experience with the owls. Its non-stop at home, as well as the bookings we have, the birds also get flown daily and weather permitting out for baths. The kids also have a busy schedule during term time!! Jessica and Kate are planning a little something fun but are waiting till after bonfire night, so keep an eye out on our Facebook page for details on what they are up to Our next blog post will be on Animal Assisted Therapy which will give you an insight into our care home visits and the science behind it. |
